Physiotherapy Services

Inpatient Physiotherapy

The Rehabilitation Department consists of a Registered Physiotherapist (PT) and a physiotherapy assistant (PTA). A physician’s referral is required for all physiotherapy services at Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The physiotherapist’s role is to perform assessments and develop treatment plans to improve or restore mobility and function for inpatients. The treatment plans and recommendations are carried out by the patient, patient’s support system (family, caregivers, etc.), nurses, PTA, and PT.

A physiotherapy assessment may include:

  • Range of motion assessment
  • Strength assessment
  • Functional transfer assessment
  • Gait assessment
  • Stairs assessment
  • Neurological testing
A physiotherapy treatment plan may include:
  • Education, advice, recommendations
  • Exercises to restore range of motion or strength
  • Functional mobilization: transfer training, gait training, stair training
  • Use of adaptive mobility devices: walkers, crutches, canes, lifts, etc.
  • Referral for additional physiotherapy services following acute care stay: inpatient rehabilitation, convalescent care, homecare physiotherapy, outpatient physiotherapy

Outpatient Physiotherapy

Physiomed Alliston provides outpatient OHIP physiotherapy services on site at Stevenson Memorial Hospital. For patients who meet the eligibility criteria, this service is OHIP funded. Please contact Physiomed directly for more information: (705) 812-6696.
