Emergency Department
If you are experiencing a medical emergency call 9-1-1.
Staff at Stevenson Memorial Hospital Emergency Department are dedicated to providing 24-hour emergency care throughout New Tecumseth and surrounding communities. The Emergency department sees on average 100 patients a day (35,000 annually)
We care for patients whose health problems require immediate attention and cannot wait to be seen by their primary care provider
The Emergency Department does not operate on a first come, first served basis. All patients are seen by a triage nurse and assigned a triage level based on the Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (CTAS). Patients are then seen in the order of their triage level, not based on time of arrival. This Triage approach allows us to give priority to those patients whose ailments are most severe and acute.
It is important to remember to bring a valid health card and any current medications or an up-to-date list with you. You will be asked to limit visitors to one at a time. This helps to ensure the staff have enough space to perform their duties efficiently and maintain privacy for all patients
If your care needs exceed the services that Stevenson provides, you will be assessed, stabilized and transferred to a hospital that offers specialized care designed to meet your needs.
